Encounters:
poetry workshop
Price: £53, £41 (60+), £35 (concs)
Level: advanced
Poems are places of encounter – with landscape and the wild, with other
people and ghosts, with our hidden selves. From Keats’ 'La Belle Dame
Sans Merci' to Burnside’s uncanny angels and mice, this workshop will
look at some key examples of poems of encounter and the surprising,
dramatic and intense worlds they create. A series of exercises will
help you explore the power of a ‘Strange Meeting’ and how it can change
the poet and the poem.

Finding inspiration
Want to write but don’t know where to start? Then join us for a week of
creative brainstorming. Through a mixture of practical exercises and
discussion we’ll look at how you can take the raw material of life –
objects, memories, dreams, desires and personal experience – and turn
it into engaging stories and poems.
